Visit to the Museum of the Customs and Traditions of the People of Trentino

Experience the magic of a long story told in stages, a journey back in time to discover Trentino’s traditions!

The Museum, housed in the Augustinian convent of San Michele all'Adige, with its 43 rooms and over 12,000 exhibits is the most important Italian ethnographic museum in the region.

The Museum is noteworthy for the detailed attention it gives to the agro-forest-pastoral system in the Trentino mountains, the various ancillary crafts supporting farming – woodwork, iron- and copper-work, ceramics, weaving -, and to testimonies of the people's religion, music and folklore. The tools of the various trades and occupations, and the many everyday objects tell a long story in various stages, which gives a fascinating and highly evocative overview of a popular culture marked by its creative ingenuity.

Meriting particular mention is the section dedicated to vine growing, which leads visitors through the cycle of work in the vineyard and the tools used to tend the vines, with displays of some important artefacts, such as the collection of precious native and naturalised vines and the collection of barrel heads dedicated to the first directors of the Institute.
